McCain Still Doesn't Know that AlQaeda is Sunni

This already appears on several blogs, including Iraq Insider, but Senator John McCain once again confused Al Qaeda as Shi'ite rather than Sunni in the Senate Armed Services Committee hearing today with Ambassador Ryan Crocker and General David H. Petraeus. Here is the conversation:

MCCAIN: Do you still view al Qaeda in Iraq as a major threat?
PETRAEUS: It is still a major threat, though it is certainly not as major a threat as it was say 15 months ago.
MCCAIN: Certainly not an obscure sect of the Shi’ites overall?
PETREAUS: No.
MCCAIN: Or Sunnis or anybody else.

One time can possibly be forgiven, but a serious Presidential candidate who claims competency in foreign policy issues should know the difference between Sunni and Shi'a.
